Letter from Cisca, April 2017:
I write this while on my 4th annual solo backpacking trip. Every time I endeavour one of these, I think of you and how your Outward Bound gift blessed me with the confidence to do this.
Recently, I’ve made a point of camping alone once a year. I do this for two reasons. First, because the mountaineering trip you sent me on made me crave being alone with nature. Secondly, that trip was the single-most challenging thing I had done until that point in my life. I came out of it a more honest and patient person. Now I make a priority of recreating that sense of challenge so I can be a better person to myself, my friends and family, and my community.
I owe you so much. Thank you for helping to create the better person I am today.
